HOAXER FINED £100.

DR. LOGAN’S CHANNEL SWIM.

TRAINER TO PAY £5O.

LONDON, November 7

In connection with the statutory declaration made by Dr. Dorothy Logan after her pretended swim across the Channel, she pleaded guilty to the charge of making a false declaration and was fined £lOO. Her trainer, Carey, was fined £5O. The Court was packed with, onlookers, including the Channel swimmers Temme and Miss Hawkes. Counsel for the prosecution said it was not suggested that Dr. Logan had endeavoured to obtain money by false pretences, but h© submitted that she made the statutory declaration in order to perpetrate a colossal hoax, and so decreased the value of such declarations.

The Lord Mayor ,Sir Rowland Blades, in giving his decision, said: “You are not before me for hoaxing the public, but for committing an offence akin to perjury, for which you could be imprisoned.”
