MOSQUITO NUISANCE.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT WARNING. FREE USE OF KEROSENE. With the advent of 'the warmer months local bodies have been asfced by the Department of Health to require their inspectors to take measures regarding the mosquito nuisance. At a meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board last week a letter was received from the health officer for the district (Dr. W. F. Findlay), stating that from time to time an article on mosquitoes and the precautions required appeared in the Press amongst the articles contributed regulaily by the department on health matters. It was pointed out that the prevention of breeding of mosquitoes was not easily controlled, however, except under great expense to local authorities.

The Rev. H. Van Staveren remarked that publicity should be given to the value of using kerosene freely in order to combat the nuisfance. The Government, he thought, should spend more money than at present in order to reduce the number of deaths and cases of serious sickness which occurred annually through mosquito bites.

It was decided that the matter be brought under the notice of the Government.
