GOLD MINING.
DEVELOPMENTS AT WAITEKAURI. A NEW REEF REPORTED. Recently two claims have been taken up on the Waijtekauri Hill at a site about, five miles south-west of the Ohineimuri Gold and Silver Mine Company’s property, on which good ore has been struck recently, and about 3% miles north-east of Karangahake township. It is understood that the claims take in the; main workings of the old Jubilee and Waitekauri mines. It is well-known that good values have been obtained in the low levels of the Jubilee# mine, but on .account of the heavy expense in working the mine, little has been done locally. At the present time the syndicate, which is working the area can do only preliminary prospecting work, but an endeavour is to be made to raise sufficient capital in England or America to follow the rich ore- chut,es downwards. Owing to the nature of the working it is considered that a sum of at least £lO,OOO will be required to do any good. The pre is similar in appearance to that obtained from parts of the Talisman mine at Karangahake some years ago.
