JUBILEE LODGE AC'iTVITIE&
VISIT FROM OTHER LODGES
In order to increase the fraternal spirit, and to gain experience and an exchange of ideas, the Oddfellows lodges in this district are arranging a series of visits to take place on the regular lodge nights. The first of these visits took place on Tuesday night, when the officers of the Loyal Thames and Loyal Nethertpn lodges were the guests of the members', of Loyal Jubilee Lodge, Paeroa. After the local lodge had opened in the, customary manner the visitors were admitted and warmly welcomed by Bro. K. L. Slyfield, 1.P.M., in the absence of Bro. W. Snow, N.G. In conveying fraternal greetings to the visitors Bro. Slyfield said that it was many years since thq Thames lodge had visited Paeroa, and he trusted that the visits would be made frequent in the future. An extension of the fraternal spirit could best be gained by going to other lodges and getting to know the members. Each lodge had its little peculiarities and methods of working, and by visiting, valuable experience, would be gained. A tribute was due to the sisters of the local lodge, who had done good work and were particularly helpful. Great credit was due to Sister I. Taylor, who as financial secretary and delegate to the annual district conference at Auckland had done much towards bringing the Jubilee lodge to the forefront.
To the members of the Netherton Jodge Bro. Slyfield extended hearty congratulations in winning the Jesney Rugby football challenge shield, and expressed regret that, owing to the of the season, Paeroa had been unable to challenge for the trophy. It was good news to learn that Netheirton had increased its membership by nearly 100 per cent, since its inception about two years ago.
The local members were then upstanding, and conferred the Honours of the Order on the visitors.
In acknowledging the welcome Bro. A. R. Gorbey, N.G. (ThameSi), congratulated the Jubilee lodge on the efficient and earnest way in which it had conducted its ceremony, and assured the members that a hearty welcome was awaiting them at Thames as soon as they could make it convenient to pay a visit. He also congratulated Netherton on the wonderful progress the lodge had made, and also on winning the Jesney Shield. On behalf of the Netherton lodge Bro. P. Harold, P.G., thanked the local lodge for the welcome, apd expressed appreciation for the help his lodge had always received from thq Paoroa members. After the meeting had been duly closed a delicious supper was served by the sisters, and a happy hour was spent in song and story.
