STREET ACCIDENTS.
THROWN FROM PONY.
PAEROA SCHOOLBOY INJURED.
While riding to the Paeroa District High School behind his elder brothel on a pony yesterday morning, a lad named Ivan Gerrand, son of Mr W. Gerrand, Mill Road, Paeroa, was thrown and .injured. It appears that the boys were in the act of negotiating the Bank of New Zealand corner whejn the animal shied at an object and swerved badly, causing both hoys to lose their balance and fall on to the road. The elder lad escaped with a few bruises, but his younger brother fell more heavily and sustained a wound on this head and abrasions and bruises. He was taken into the bank premises, and Dr. Little was, summoned. The doctor found that the boy was dazed, and after giving treatment conveyed him to the; Arohanui Nursing ‘Home for observation. On inquiries being made this morning it was learned that the little fellow had spent a comfortable night and was feeling very much better. TWO CYCLISTS INJURED. STRAY DOGS CAUSE MISHAPS. The number of stray dogs that frequent the Paeroa main streets has often been severely commented upon, and with the almost daily increase in traffic steps will have; to be taken to minimise the number. Yesterday two accidents; occurred as a result of the dog nuisance.
When returning to work from lunch yesterday a lad named Harry Nield, employed by Mr J. P. Gamble, was cycling along Belmont ROad when a couple of dogs rushed at him and struck the front wheel of the machine a glancing blow. The lad was thrown heavily on to the street and received slight abrasions and
The second accident befell a motorcyclist named Nikola Letica-, who was riding his machine along Normanby Road at about 4.30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. When nearly opposite the Borough Chambeirs he swerved in towards, the footpath to enable a motorcar to pass, and at the instant several dogs tore along the road close together, and a collision occurred. Letica was, thrown from his machine, on to the metal and received a cut on the chin and abrasions tp hands and one arm. His coat was also badly torn.
The motor-cycle suffered considerable damage, including a smashed head-lamp, mudguards, and bent handle-bars.
