BASKETBALL.

PAEROA ASSOCIATION.

INTER-SCHOOL GAMES,

On Saturday last, at the Paeroa District High School grounds, a'tournament between the primary basketball teams of this district was held to decide which school should hold for the ensuing year the shield presented by the Paeroa Basketball Association. Entries were received from Waihi District High School, Waihi East, Waihi South, Waihi Convent, Te Aroha District High School, Mangaiti, Hikutaia A and B, Paeroa Convent, and Paeroa District High School. A very interesting and enjoyable day was spent in keen though friendly rivalry, and the excitement was tense in the final stages of the contest. The games resulted ast follows : Eliminating Games. —Paeroa District High School 23, v. Waihi District High School 6; Waihi East 16 v. Hikutaia A 0 ; Mangaiti 30, v. Hikutaia B 0 ; Paeroa Convent 28, v. Waihi South 2; Te Aroha District High School 10, v. Waihi Convent 8.

Second Series. —Te Aroha District High School 35, v. Mangaiti 2; Paerpa Convent 32, v. Waihi East 0. Semi-final.—Paeroa District High School 24, v. Te Aroha District High School 14.

The final, was between Paeroa District High School and Paeroa Convent, and was an excellent exhibition of basketball, reflecting great credit on the coaches of the respective teams. The issue was in doubt till the call of time, and the excitement among the onlookers! was intense. The game resulted : Paeroa District High School 24 Paeroa Convent 20.

After expressing the* pleasure of the association in entertaining so many visitors who had evidently enjoyed themselves,, the president (Mr G. H. Taylor) asked Mr J. Elliot, of Hikutaia School, to formally present the shield to the winning team. After rounds of cheers for the winners and runnqrs-up the children dispersed tired but happy.

The Thames Basketball. Association paid a return visit to Paeroa on Saturday, September 24. After partaking of lunch in the High School rooms the matches w®re played, the results being as follows :— Paeroa Reps 28, v. Thames Reps UPaeroa Primary .60, v. Thames South ‘2; Paeroa Convent 34, v. Thames Central 8; Paeroa Primary 21, v. Thames Central 7 ; Paeroa Convent 36, v. Thames South 2.
