FLAXMILLING.
CADMAN ROAD MILL REOPENED.
CONSIGNMENT OF GOOD QUALITY.
The flaxmill on Cadman Road known as Endean’s has recently been reopened by Mr J. Stewart, late of Manawatu and Invqrqargill. The mill was worked by the late Mr John Endean for some years, but had to be shut down in order to allow the young flax to develop. Cutting was commenced a little while ago, and the first consignment left Paeroa for Auckland on Wednesday . The fibre is, said to be of good quality.
The opening of this mill gives employment to some sixteen persons, and it is thought that now the flax has come away so well, the mill will be kept open.
The new proprietor of the mill, Mr J. Stewart, is not altogether a stranger in these parts, he beipg a resident of Paeroa some 28 years ago and erected a sawmill at Awaiti for a local syndicate that was then operating.
