FOOTBALL.
AUCKLAND V. THAMES VALLEY.
GOOD PROSPECTS TO-MORROW.
A special attraction is to be offered supporters of Rugby football tomorrow at the local domain, when an Auckland representative team is to play the Thames Valley representative fifteen. Given a fine afternoon, the game should prove to be one of the best seen at Paeroa for some time.
Included in the visiting team are several players from the victorious representative Auckland team, and they in themselves should be worth going a long way to sep. The selectors have found it necessary to make some alterations in the Thames Valley team on account of sickness of players, but a strong side has been chosen, and one that should give a good account of itself. The referee selected by the; Auckland union to control the game is Mr R. T. Reed of Ngatea. In order to meet the wishes of the visitors, who are returning to Auckland to-morrow night, the match is scheduled to commence at 2.30 p.m. A curtain-raiser to the senior game has beep arranged between a Piako representative third-grade team and a local third-rgrade fifteen. This is the last official match of the season, and the price of admission has; been fixed at one shilling. There will be ample accommodation for the spectators, and it is confidently expected that the public will rise to the occasion and give the union its fullest support. Following are the teams:— AUCKLAND. Full-back, Butler; three-quarters', Minns, Stuart, Loft; five-eighths, Bradanovich, Meyer: half-back, Wright; rover, Finlayson ; forwards, Noakes, Stewart, Wanoa, Miller, Hardman, Keary, Anderson. Emergencies : Back, Goodwin ; forward Stone. THAMES VALLEY. Full-back, S. Goldsbury; threequarters, Faulkner, Towers, McQuarters; five-eighths. Black, Hollis; half-back, Hake ; rover, Price; for-
wards, McLaren, Young, Rolleston (lock). Mulgrew, R. Smith, Riddle. Emergencies: Back, Saunders; forward, Craig. A perusal of the placers in the Auckland team reveals that there are six who have been Included in the Auckland A representative teiam and eight in the B team. The only player who has not yet represented Auckland is Hardman, but nevertheless he is a good man. Butlejr, who is to have another trial in the All Blacks on Wednesday next at Wellington in the final Possibles- v. Probables match, is well known. Meyer has Played several “A” representative games, as also has Wright and Anderson, while Wanoa has been lock during the greater part of this season. and Finlayson played one game and then went down with scarlet fever. It will, therefore, be readily seen that the visiting team is more than an average one. Owing to the Ponsenby-Grammar and ManukauTechnical Old Boys’ teams playing the; finals of the competitions tb-mor-row the Auckland Union could not select players from those four teams.
PRIMARY SCHOOL MATCH.
HIKUTAIA V. PAEROA A. On Wednesday afternoon Paeroa A team played a game against Hikutaia, the result being a substantial win for Hikutaia by 18 points to 0. Welch (3), Corbett, Morrison and V. Heslop scored for the winners, who played with considerably more dash and combination than Paeroa. The Paeroa lads played a very ragged game, and should endeavour to follow up their kicks quickly and to support who manages to put in a run. At least two chances of scoring were lost through the team not supporting when a player brokei away. Long kicking instead of short high punting jvas too often indulged in by Paeroa. Edwards played a bustling game, but should pass the ball mor® often instead of kicking into the opponents’ hands. Mr T. C. Arnold was referee.
