DRYSDALE CUP COMPETITION’.
FINAL GAME TO-MORROW. There is*already evidence that considerable; interest will be taken in the final game for the Drysdale Cup which is to be played at the local domain to-morrow afternoon. The issue will be fought out between the East seniors and the Veterans. The flrs-t mentioned team has already defeated West and Suburbs in the competition, and should now have the advantage of the- knowledge; of each other’s play, which should result in good combination. The Veterans in their only match so far, defeated the City fifteen fairly easily, but to-morrow they will meet a more experienced and seasoned team.
Both teams have ardent supporters, and both are confident, of success, and there will be no loafing on either side. The members of both teams- have undergone a certain amount of training, and the friendly rivalry between the teams is increasing as the match draws near.
Last night the majority of the Veterans team assembled at the Drillshed, where an hour’s solid practice was put in.
Some members of thq East team have, done their training in the domain, and generally they are a fairly fit lot.
The game, which is scheduled to commence at 2.45 p.m., will be controlled by Mr D. G. McMillan. The. Veterans team is to assemble at the Royal Mail Hotel, and leaving there at 2.30 p.m., will march to the domain, headed by the Boy Scout Band. This band will also render appropriate selection during the; afternoon.
As a curtain-raiser to the cup match the Hikutaia boys will play an inter-school game against Netherton, commencing at. 1.30 p.m., with Mr T. C. Arnold as referee.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS COMPETITION.
LAST WEDNESDAY’S MATCH,
The result of this; year’s compe-ti-tion between the, teams from the Paeroa Netherton and Hikutaia schools was disclosed on Wednesday afternoon, when Paeroa B journeyed to Hikutaia and defeated, the Hikutaia lads by 10 points- to 6. Ken Curtis and Viv Nicholls each scored for Paeroa, Curtis converting both tries, While Corbett and Bennett registered unconverted tries for Hikutaia.
The losers played easily the better game, apd were very unlucky in not winning the match. They were leading until within a fe-w minutes of time and certainly deserved to win, but just before - time Curtis broke through at halfway and, closely pursued by Hikutaia, just' managed to cross the line. The Paeroa B team is thus ensured of winning the shield, as the remaining matches cannot alter the result. Mr T. C. Arnold was referee.
