HOCKEY CLUB’S SOCIAL.

PAEROA LADIES’ EFFORT. ENJOYABLE NIGHT SPENT. The Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club held a most successful dance at the Gaiety Theatre last night. A large and representative, number of people attended, and the general opinion was freely expressed that the function was a most enjoyable, one-. With Messrs M. Crosby and E. L. Shaw as M’s.C. thej dancers were well attended to, and they greatly appreciated the inspiriting music contributed by the Hauraki Orchestra.

A “SOO” competition was conducted on the stage by Messrs A. Finnie and T. H. Hale, and play was keen and enthusiastic for the handsome prizes that were offered.

During the supper adjournment the club’s president thanked all who had supported the club, and explained that the object of holding the social was to raise funds for defraying the travelling expenses' of the team which would be incurred in pursuance of the challenge for the Johnston Cup. Grateful thanks were also extended to the donors of the prizes, and the ladies for providing the delicious' supper, to which full justice had been done.

Prizes for thq “500” competition were then presented as follows: Ladies, Mrs; Matkovich Ist, Mrs Lowry 2nd, Miss G. D. Miller 3rd ; men, L. Gibb Ist, T. Radford 2nd, G. Tressider 3rd.

During th© evening a Spot waltz was held, and the prize was won by Mrs E. A. Porritt and Mr W. A. Fathers.

The decbrations of the dance hall were tastefully carried out in greenery and black and white streamers (the club’s colours), while, in the sup-per-room the decorations comprised spring flowers and greenery.
