BEST AUSTRALIAN LAMB.
CONSIGNMENTS IN LONDON.
SOLD AS NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
Australian lambs denuded of all brands; and wraps were, being sold in London as the product of New Zealand, says a Melbourne paper. Mr Rogeson Bullen, grazier, of the film of Rogeson Bullen Proprietary, told this to the Royal Commission appointed by the State Government tp inquire into the losses sustained by Amalgamated Freezing Works in connection with which the State Government is owed more than £4o'o,ooo'. Mr Bullen said he; had actual knowledge of consignments of the very best quality, being sold alongside New Zealand lapibs as the product of that country. He thought the proprietary companies in Australia were to blame. Mr Keane. Commissioner : To get a little more profit, they sacrifice the good name of Australian lambs. Witness: Yes; the good name of Australia has not had a chance to* be made yet. There is no law to stop what is going on. The tags might be removed and the lambs sold as American, or anything else t,he purchaser desires.
