THE PRESIDENT’S AFTERNOON. RAIN MARS COMPETITION. Last Saturday afternoon was anything but an ideal day for golf, but notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions there was a large attendance of members at the local links to take part in the competition arranged for tlie president’s afternoon. Tire competition was a handicap mixed foursomes ovo.r a nine-hole course. Just, as the first four moved off at 2 p.m. heavy rain commenced to fall, but undeterred each four followed on in turn, and all played the full round. At the conclusion of play a dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady members and was much enjoyed. After' presenting prizes to the winners of the competition, namely, Miss Iris Taylor and H. R. Thorp, the president (Mr A. F. Steedman) explained that a day had beojn set aside by the committee as president’s day .when thepresident could nominate the competition to be held. He had, therefore, consulted the. ladies’ club with a view to holding a combined match that afternoon. The event had been most successful, but it was unfortunate that the weather had been so wet.
