THAMES V. PAEROA.

LAST SATURDAY’S GAME.

Despite the fact that the playing conditions could scarcely have been more unfavourable, hard and interesting Rugby was witnessed by a fair crowd at Parawai on Saturday afternoon, when the Thames fifteen met and decisively defeated the Paeroa team by 15 points to 0. The wet ground and consequent slippery ball militated against either back division being able to open out to the best advantage. However, Thames especially were seen in a number of passing bouts-, the slippery leather being handled particularly well. ■ A feature of 'the match was the excellent sporting spirit in which it was played.

Thames were in the ascendancy the greater part of the game, and were superior to the visitors, both in the backs and in the forwards. Had the day been fine and the ground dry the home fifteen gave by the manner in which they made play open at every opportunity, that they would have pleased supporters with, a bright exhibition.

Paeroa lacked combination and finish in attacking movements; but their defensive work Was solid, and it was not until the final twenty minutes that the superiority of the home team told its story. MATCHESI ON PLAINS. The football teams of the Ngatea and Kerepeehi schools will meet at Ngatea next Saturday afternoon in the’final of the inter-school competition for the Terrill Cup. This match was deferred some weeks ago on account of the school holidays. A collection will be made amongst the spectators to defray the expenses of transportation, etc.
