RESERVED DECISION GIVEN. TWO MEN CONVICTED AND FINED. On Monday last at the, usual sitting of the Paeroa Police Court the magistrate (Mr F. W. Platts, S.M.) delivered a reserved judgment in the case of A. W .Curtis, junr., and A. Vuglar, who were charged with being on licensed premises (Commercial Hotel, Paeroa) after hours on July 11 last. In the course of a lengthy judgment, supplemented by the quotation of several authorities, the magistrate pointed out that there was, an onus on the defendants to satisfy the Court that their presence at the hotel was not a contravention of the Licensing Act. That onus had not been satisfactorily discharged, and the defendant,' would be convicted and fined £2 each, with costs against Curtis amounting to Ils and against Vuglar 10s.
