NGATEA. THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. In common with many other places, a difficulty is being experienced in Ngatea in maintaining interest in the local library. It is naw a considerable time since a committee was appointed to control t,he institution, but as far as is known this committee has not met since, and the administration 'has been in the hands of the honorary librarian, Mr J. E. Reid. Latterly he has- endeavoured t'o stimulate interest, and with the assistance of several volunteers has arranged for the library to be open daily from 4 p.m. till 5 p.m. with the e-xception of Fridays and Saturdays, when it will be open from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. There are over 500 books available to subscribers, and more- yVill be procured when the librarian can get authority to expend the money in hand. An effort is to be made to hold a meeting of the committee, in the near future, and if this Is not possible a. public meeting will be called. The matter of the disposal or the utilisation of the old library building is a subject requiring attention.
