ODDFELLOWSHIP.
THE NETHERTON LODGE. VISIT OF DISTRICT OFFICERS. The parable of “the mustard seed, its wonderful growth from an insignificant seed, is a fitting parallel to the Manchester Unity Oddfellows in general and the Loyal Netherton Lodge in particular. The lodge, formed through the efforts of Loyal Jubilee Lodge, Paeroa, has beicome not only a strong Manchester Unity stronghold, but its meetings’ have become recognized as happy social evenings by the district. In its first year, with an increase of 65 per cent., Loyal Netherton was’ third in the running for the membership shield for Auckland district lodges under 200 members, and this year with 60 members already on the books, Loyal Netherton is making special efforts to secure this coveted shield.
On Tuesday evening the Lodge was ’ visited by the District Officers in the attendance of Bro. John McLeod, P.G.M., Auckland. District Secretary, and Bro. John Clark, P.G-.M., Auckland District Treasurer. In spite of the elements, a good muster of Netherton oddfellows and several local members formed an enthusiastic gathering of sixty oddfellows t ; o welcome the district’s, representatives. The district ’officers congratulated Loyal Netherton ■on its progress, and also on its efforts to open a lodge at Kerepeehi. The district officers answered several questions and explained .the proposed improvements in benefits, and mentioned the addition to Auckland’s architecture in the: fine Unity Building nearing completion in Hobson Street. ® Following the meeting an enjoyable evening and dainty supper arranged by the sisters of the lodge, terminated a function of interest.
