FOOTBALL

PAEROA RUGBY UNION. The regular meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union Committee was held at Mr Bain’s rooms on Monday night, the chairman (Mr C. T. Mettam) presiding over the following: Messrs J. M. Crosby, H. M. Shand, J. Pinder, C. H. Potter, T. Royal, E. P. Fathers, and R. Hodson (secretary). JERSEYS. In connection with the purchase of extra jerseys for representative matches, the secretary reported the steps that he had taken, and his action in obtaining some on approval was endorsed. REGISTRATION. An application for registration wa- received from J. Verran on account of his return to Paeroa. The registration was accepted and the player allotted to the West club. THAMES MATCH. The Paeroa representative team selected to play Thames at Paeroa on Saturday next was approved. On the motion of the- chairman Mr Fathers was appointed to meet the Thames team on arrival, and the secretary w.qs deputed to attend to the local team. It was. decided that all members of the union, together with the senior selector (Mr W. H. Taylor) be invited to attend the dinner at the Commercial Hotel after the match. It was resolved to play a primary schools’ test match at 1.45 p.m. as a curtain-raiser to the senior game. TRANSPORT. The secretary was instructed to call tenders for the transport of players to Waihi on August 27. DRYSDALE CUP. A considerable time was, spent in discussing the amended rules governing the Drysdale Cup competition, and on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Crosby, the rules as amended were adopted. GENERAL. On the motion of Mr Potter it was resolved that the union take strong exception to. the report published on page 4 of the Piako Rugby Union’s official programme of August 6 which, it was alleged, cast reflections upon the executive with reference to the fixing of dates for matches. As the report was contrary to fact, the chairman and secretary were requested to place the true position before the Piako Union. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the committee on Tuesday, August 23. PAEROA V. THAMES. LOCAL TEAM FOR SATURDAY. The following players have been selected to represent Paeroa against Thames in the representative football match at the Paeroa Domain on Saturday :— Full-back, K. Dean ; three-quarters, G. Wells, R. Swann, R. Neild ; fiveeighths, D. Smith L. C. Masters; half-back; ’Watene ; rover, A. Morrison ; forwards, Tahu, F. Patterson, R. Shaw, T. Greenhalgh, V. Carrick, M. Poland. S. Wyatt. Emergencies: A. Mills, H. Wright.
