STREET LIGHTS.

I REPORT BY COMMITTEE. •‘■’"’'BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION. The following report of a special committee set up to go into the question of street lights: in the borough was presented to the Paeroa Borough Council on Thursday night last: — “Your committee has made- an inspection of some of the streets in the borough and recommends the following alterations and additions :— “Remove light from corner of Prospl® Terrqce to pole on footpath in Rye Lane. “Remove light near Bradley Street on Station Road 20ft to west side on Station Road and erect dummy pole to carry light. This will serve Station Road and Bradley Street. M “Turn light at corner of Aorangi Road to Arney Street. This light requires turning 40 degrees so as to serve Aorangi Road. “We recommend new light at corner of Claremont Avenue, opposite £ Mr Greaves’ residence. * “We recommend a new light in Albert Street on the bend of the road.” Cr. F. E. Flatt gave it as his opinion that the alteration of the light in Prospect Terrace would not be in the best interests of the residents at the far end. Cr. J. Pinder did not agree, and suggested that possibly the difficulty could be overcome if a higher powered globe was fitted. The lighting in that locality was not satisfactory. Cr. E. Edwards pointed out that any chance of deflecting the light " from the bridge in Rye Lane should be avoided. The meeting was reminded by Cr. Flatt that there had .always been dissatisfaction with regard to the lighting of the bridge and he reiterated that, in his opinion, the removal of the lamp from its present position in Prospect Terrace would not be in the best interests. The opinion was expressed by the ’ Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) that in comparison with other towns Paeroa was L well lighted. He thought that if convex shades were -used more generally the result would be more beneficial. After further discussion it was agreed to adopt the report with the exception of the light in Prospect Terrace, which matter would be held over for one month to enable a further report on the position to be made-
