THE LATE MR McGUIRE.
TRIBUTE FROM COUNTY COUNCIL. RESOLUTION OF SYMPATHY. At yesterday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council the chairman (Cr. H. M. Corbett) referred feelingly to the loss the council and district had sustained by the passing of Mr A. D. McGuire, and moved the following resolution: “That this council tenders its profound sympathy to- Mrs McGuire a.nd family in their sad loss, and desires to place on record its high appreciation of the long and honourable service given by the late Mr McGuire in his position as a member of the council, and also as a representative on the Thames Hospital Board.” The chairman said he wished to add his personal appreciation of the services rendered. It had been his privilege to be chairman o' the council at the time Mr McGuire was first elected to the council, and Cr. McGiUire had continued to represent the Karangahake riding loyally and conscientiously up to the time of his death. The absence of. deceased from the council ta.ble was keenly felt, and it was only fitting that an expression of sympathy should be passed and his splendid record of public service recognised.
In seconding, Cr. W. F. Johnstone also expressed his sorrow at the loss of their colleague, and paid a. tribute to the work and helpful advice given him by Cr. McGuire during his term as chairman.
The resolution was carried in silence, the members standing, after which the council adjourned for half an hour as a mark'of respect.
