THE RAINFALL.
FIGURES FOR JULY.
MEDIUM WEATHER AT PAEROA.
Meteorological data supplied by the local office* of the Public Works Department indicate that rain fell at Paeroa on 23 days during the month of July. The heaviest fall was on July 26 when the amount recorded was 1.47 inches for the 12 hours. During the week from July 21 to 28 2.10 inches of rain fell. The total rainfall for the month, 8.04 inches, was 3,31 inches less than during the corresponding month in 1926.
During the seven months of this year the rainfall recorded .was 30.54 inches, being 5.24 inches less than for the first seven months of 1926. The thermometer reading during July averaged 51 degrees, the highest being 56 degrees, which was reached on July 1,9, 10, and 26. Th e lowest reading, 40 degrees, occurred on July 15.
The barometer fluctuated from 29.81 points on July 12 to 30.33 points on July 24'.
THE PLAINS RECORD.
TWENTY-TWO WET DAYS.
Only on nine days during the past month did no rain fall at Kerepeehi, where gauging is undertaken by the Lands Drainage Department, and at no time was theire a longer spell pf fine weather than two days. The total fall for the month .was 6.29 inches, which is above the average for the month but a little, below the highest record for July, in 1926. A feature of last month’s record was the comparative lightness of the daily falls. The heaviest fall was for the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on the 26th, when .8 of an inch was recorded. This was the period during which 8 inches fell at Waihi and heavy rain caused floods in other parts of the country. Only on a couple of occasions during the month was the rain for the 24hour period above one-third of an inch.
