Prior to the commencement of business at the Paeroa Rugby Union committee. meeting on Monday night the chairman (Mr C. T. Mettani) referred feelingly to the loss to sport that had been sustained by the death of Mr A. D. McGuire, who had been a district representative footballer. On the motion of the chairman a resolution of sympathy was accorded the relatives.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board a claim for £lO was received from Mr A. D. Pemberton, Tirau, for the death of a cow alleged to have been caused by a fault in thel board’s line. On the motion of Mr J. W. Anderson it was decided to pay the claim.
The energetic secretaries of the West Football Club, Messrs Conolly and Masters, are sparing nb efforts for the pleasure of dancers, together with the comfort and convenience of euchre enthusiasts. Apparently this jovial evening, to be held at the Gaiety Theatre on Monday evening next, Bth inst., will eclipse all social functions of the season.*
In reply to a question during th© hearing of the charges of being on licensed premises after hours, a witness at the local Court on Monday last said that he could not, remember, as he was excited at the time. “Yes,” said Senior-Sergeant Maclean ; “I supopse it came like a bolt from the blue to find a sergeant of police in an hotel at Paeroa at night.”
In the Magistrate’s Court at Waihi yesterday, Robert Patterson was charged with breaking the weights and measures regulations by failing to attach a label indicating the weight when selling coal in sacks. SeniorSergeant McLean said it was the first case of the kind that had been heard in the district. Defendant was fined £l, with costs.
A reminder is given that - the formal opening of the Paeroa District High School Dental Clinic is to be performed by Mr A- .Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, on Friday afternoon at 3.1'5 o’clock. Invitations have been sent to local bodies and adjacent school committees, and in this issue a cordial invitation is extended to parents and residents to attend.
At a meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board at Te Aroha yesterday the chairman (Mr F. M. Strange) paid a striking tribute to the late Mr A. D. McGuire, of PaeroaIn moving that a letter of condolence be sent to the relatives from the board Mr Strange said that Mr McGuire had been a loyal .and conscientious official of the board, and was such an one as the board could illafford to lose.

Through falling off a horse on H farm near Ngatea on Tuesday Mr Noel Harper in ured his knee and was taken to the Thames Hospital for an X-ray examination.
