NGATEA.

CHURCH CONCERT.

Where there is a church on the Plains there is a church debt, and where there are church debts) there are social functions. Such, a, cause promoted a Paeroa concert party to visit Ngatea last Wednesday evening, to give an entertainment in aid of the Methodist Church Building Fund. There was a large attendance, and all the items were well received, and deservedly enchored. The programme included the following : — Two instrumental quartettes', by Mr Fox and party, Paeroa, was the first item; part song, “O, who- will o’er the Downs so Free," Mr, Mrs. and Misses Cocks, Paeroa.; and also Glee, “The Carnovale” ; recitation, “The New Church Organ,” Mrs Cocks; song, “Little Brown Owl,” Miss Mavis Cocks ; duet, “Whispering Hcpe,” Misses Cocks'; song, “The Sailor’s Grave," Mr Cocks; song, Mr Hobin, Ngatea; duet, "Maying," Mr .and Mrs Hobin; quartettes, “Laughing Chorus", and Neaf de dear old Southern Pines,’’-the Ngatea quartette party (Messrs Schultz, Rowlings, Tarver, and Hobin) ; song, Mr Owens, Turua ; song, Mr Walker, Turua ; song, Mrs Mitchell, Paeroa ; a mouth organ solo and a mandolin solo were contributed by Mr West, Paeroa; dialogue, “The Shy Young Man,” Mr Gamble and party } Paerba. By special request the girls of the Ngatea, Glee Club, under Mrs F. Basham, repeated several of the numbers) given at their concert recently. These were songs and choruses, featuring “Mr” Norma Elliott, Misses Barbara Basham, Mabel Hayward, Ethel Wheeler ,and L. Luks as soloists. WEEKLY DANCES. The Combined Sports Committee’s weekly dances at Ngatea are increasing in popularity, the attendance last Saturday evening being a record for a night with no special attraction. During the' week members of. the committee made eight small tables for the use of euchre players, the timber being supplied by Mr W. J. Clare at half price. A vote of thanks w'as accorded Mr Clare. The euchre competition prizes went to Mrs Barriball and Master M. Co»tello, and the consolation prizes to Mrs R. Burke and Mr D. Waite. KEREPEEHI. “BRING AND BUY” SALE. A “Bring and Buy” sale was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Wednesday afternoon and resulted in the sum of £2 15s being secured for the Kerepeehi branch of the Plqnket Society. The afternoon was organised by Mrs Taylor and Mrs? Murdock, and proved very enjoyable as several musical items were given.
