NGATEA HALL SOCIETY.
MEETING OF TRUSTEES. The trustees of-the Ngatea. Public Hall Society held their monthly meeting yesterday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over Messrs. C. S. McTaggart, S. Phillipn, W. McDuff, G. Phillips, G. T. Darlington, and the secretary, Mr S. Tarver. SATURDAY NIGHT DANCES. Mr A. J. Kemp, secretary of the Ngatea Combined Sports Committee, wrote advising that at q recent meeting it was decided to ask for the hall on Saturday nights for three months, with the option of renewing for further periods. A request was made that /undry articles of crockery be provided. Mr McDuff was opposed to letting the hall for an extended period, arguing that other bodies might desire the hail on the Saturday evening, and it was not fair that they should be debarred from getting it. The chairman argued that the Sports Committee had worked up their regular functions and the Hall Society sihould not do anything to discourage them. Mr McDuff contended that the public had shown its resentment at one body being given the monopoly of the hall on Saturday evenings by boycotting the- functions organised by that body.
After more discussion Mr McTaggart moved thqt the Combined Sports Committee be given the lease of the hall on Saturday evenings for three montns, with the proviso that the Hall Comihittee reserves the right to take thei hall on any Saturday night on giving a week’s notice, and that three months’ rental be collected in advance. After some discussion the final clause was deleted and the motion, seconded by Mr McDuff,. was carried without dissent. The secretary was authorised to procure jugs, plates, etc., as requested. APPRECIATION, On the motion of the chairman a vote of appreciation was accorded Mrs Bahsam, of the Ngatea Glee, Club, for the effort which had resulted in the society’s funds being augmented. THANKS. The chairman reported that Mr J. E. Reid proposed piping the roadside drain on his frontage, and had suggested that thehall frontage be piped also. He had asked that the society give an indication of its opinion on the subject, and had suggested that payment could be made by means of remitting his interest and purchase price to the value of the work.
