FLORA STREET.

RE,SI DENTS SEEK IMPROVEMENT.

DECISION OF COUNCIL,

At the last meeting of the Paei'oa Borough Council a letter was received from Mr and Mrs G. E. Allen, of Flora Street, Paeroa, pointing out the disgraceful state of this road and street.

Cr. Sileock moved that the letter stand over, and be discussed with the petition. This wasi seconded by Cr. Fliitt, and carried.

A petition, signed by I's residents of Flora Street, and presented by Cr. Edwards, asking tyr improvements to the road and footpaths, was received.

Cr. Flatt said that lie had visited (lie road and thought that there wa.s hardship. He. contended that there should be some metal put on the path, and moved that the works committee be given power to spend a sum, not exceeding £4. in giving rerelief., to the residents in that street. This was seconded by Cr. Edwards, who drew attention to the fact that that there was £72 on the- estimates for that road. He added that he thought something should be done. Cr. Pinder said that he had asked for some improvements to a street for the last six months. The street he referred to was much worse than Flora Street, and so far he had not been able to get any thing done. He thought that if any patching was to be done his application had a prior claim.

Cr. Sileock thought that the expediture of £4 would be ridiculous, asi it would cost at least £lO to- uo any good. He. estimated it would take about 13 yards of metal, and he thought that the council should make a job of it. He said that there was good cause for complaint in wet weather, and was against spending £4, but was quite agreeable for a proper job made of the work. His Worship moved that Mr and Mrs Allen be informed that the unmetalled portion of Flora Street will be metalled next summer, and tha.t the reconditioning of. the footpath would be referred to the works committee, with power to act, and for attention in such manner, and at such time as the exigencies of other works make' most desirable.

Ct. Hare seconded the amendment, and said he thought that it was better ,to do the job properly, and he thoroughly agreed with the amendment

The Mayor said that this road should not be singled out.

Cr. Flatt said that he had visited the road that day, and thought that immedia.te relief should be given, and that a few loads of metal would give t-he relief wanted.

The amendment was carried
