FOOTBALL.

PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union Committee was held in Mr Bain’s rooms on Monday evening, the following being present : Messrs C. T. Mettam (chairman), H. M. Shand, J. M. Crosby, J. Pinder, E. P. Fathers, C. Potter, and R. Hodson (secretary). REGISTRATION. The Suburbs Club wrote asking for the registration and allotment of C. W. Jones to that club. As no qualifications of this player had been forwarded, and the union had not been advised as to what grade he was to be registered in, it was decided to defer the matter until next meeting for this information to be supplied. THIRD-GRADE TEAM. The Piako Union wrote asking for a third-grade representative team to play a curtain-raiser at Te Aroha on Saturday. ‘ The request was granted, Mr Crosby being appointed selector. The transport of the team was left in the hands of. the chairman and secretary. TEAM MANAGERS. Messrs Mettam and Fathers were appointed joint managers of the senior team on Saturday, and Mr Crosby was deputed to manage the junior team proceeding to Te Aroha. It was also decided that in the event of the Piako senior team travelling by car they would be entertained after the match at the Commercial hotel. REFEREE. As Mr Mahoney had advised that he would not be available to referee the Paeroa v. Piako match at Pa.eroa on Saturday, the secretary was instructed to write to Mr Mannix and ask who would control the game. DRYSDALE CUP. Nominations were received for the Drysdale Cup knock-out competition from East, West, Suburbs, and City. It was resolved to accept nominations up to next ■ Monday. As an additional condition in this competition it was decided that in the event of a game being a,, draw on the call of time, the teams would change over and play two spells of 10 minutes, and during that extra 20 minutes a force would count one point to the attacking team. It was also resolved that all matches in the competition be controlled by local referees. SENIOR COMPETITION. It was agreed that the final match for the McCullay Shield, between Suburbs and West, be played on the 23rd instant. TIME OF DEPARTURE. Arrangements will be made for the third-grade team to leave Paeroa at 12.15 p.m. and the juniors'at 1.30 p.m. for Te Aroha on Saturday. CURTAIN-RAISER. As a curtain-raiser to the senior game at Paeroa on Saturday a, match has been arranged between the. Paeroa and Piako primary school teams, with Mr J. Rackham as referee. INJURED PLAYER. The chairman was deputed to confer with the Piako Union in regard to the insurance of V. Atkins, who was injured on Charity Saturday last year. CLEARANCE. T. Pullar wrote asking for a clearance from the East club to play for Netherton in the event of that club placing q team in the competition. As. no entry had been received from Netherton it was decided to decline the application. HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

The management committee of. the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union met at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr H. Dent presiding over Messrs A. H. McClean, H. L. Berney, W. Madgwick, C. Bertelsen; G. Elvin, E. A. Mahoney, and W. Wylde (secretary). SUSPENSIONS. . The referee of the Ngatea-Kere-peehi junior match at Kej-epeehi on Saturday last reported ha.ving suspened two Kerepeehi juniors, J. O’Connor and R. Smith, for fighting. The committee decided to detil with the matter to save calling the members of the judicial, board together, and after an explanation by the referee and several eye-witnesses it was decided that the players be severely cautioned. The offence was considered a,serious* one, but in view of the punishment and disgrace of being ordered off the field, and also the fact that the boys were junior players and had not previously given trouble, no further punishment was given. . ADOPTION OF RULES. Mr Mahoney, on behqlf of the committed appointed, submitted a draft o,f suitable rules for the* conduct of the union’s scheme of player,s’ insurance, and after an explanation and discussion the rules, were adopted. Copies would be- sent to clubs as soon as possible. A committee comprising Messrs H. Dent, E. Walton, and E. A. Mahoney was appointed to revise the rules of the union and report to a later meeting. SPLENDID CUP PRESENTED. Th© president, Mr H. Dent, produced a very fine solid silver cup, and intimated that, in accordance with a promise made at the beginning of the season, he wished to present it to the union as a. trophy for the senior grade competition in place of the Stretton-Pinchess Cup, which would be won outright this season. He suggested that the cup might be played for during the present season by organising a knock-out competition. The players desired some more football after the end of the present competition, and a knock-out competition could be played in a. couple of Saturdays. He would draw up conditions under which the cup would be competed for as soon as possible. In moving that the union accept the cup and record its appreciation of the generous act of the- president Mr Madgwick said that the union was

fortunate in (having a man so enthusiastic about the old game of Rugby as Mr Dent. On behalf of the Tur.ua club he wished to sincerely thank the president.

Other delegates added their commendations and thanked the president on behalf, of their clubs, and it was pointed out that the cup was the best and most valuable ttophy competed for by any team or union’s representatives within a wide radius. Delegates favoured the idea of knock-out round this season, and A motion adopting the suggestion was earned, details being left until a later meeting. PROTEST DISMISSED. In connection with a protest entered by the captain of the Ngatea seniors concerning the refereeing in the Ngatea-Waitakaruru match on June 25, the judicial committee advised that as the referee was still of the opinion that decisions were correct it had no option but to dismsis tH? appeal. FINANCE. The secretary reported that the income to date amounted to £43 16s: and the expenditure to £4l 0s 9d, while there were accounts totalling about £2O not yet rendered. The credit balance in the insurance fund was £62 15s. INSURANCE. After the meeting the insurance committee met and authorised the payment of money to two seniors and one junior who had received injuries. A progress payment to the Kerepeehf junior who was still in hospital was authorised to be paid if required, and two other cases were held over, one pending further inquiry and the other until the certificate of fitness to resume work was received from the union’s doctor.
