HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL.
DEVELOPMENT OF RECREATION
ENJOYABLE TIME SPENT
Nowadays the education of. secondary school children does not consist of working and passing examinations only each year. The sporting and social side, of the pupil’s life is encouraged and developed. That the staff of the Paeroa District High School is fully alive to this branch of children’s education is evident, when it is considered that the local school has Its own football, cricket and basketball teams, each of which 'are active participants in the various local competitions. Not only is much time given by the teachers in assisting sport, but the social side is encouraged and developed, and to this end concerts are held regularly during the winter months. Such a function took place in the Soldiers’ Club on Friday night last, when between 70 and 80 pupils, teachers, and .parents and friends attended. The evening passed all too quickly with games and interesting competitions, which were ably conducted by the prefects with the help of the senior pupils and teachers. All present entered into the- proceedings with zest and enthusiasm, and after thfe competitions were concluded several enjoyable dances were held. In congratulating the promoters on the success of the function a special tribute was paid to the girls who were responsible for the delicious supper.
