LASfl’ SATURDAY’S MATCH. PAEROA DEFEATS NGATEA. On Saturday afternoon the Paeroa ladies’ hockey team defeated the Ngatea eleven by two goals to nil. Thegame, which was played at the local domain, attracted considerable attention, and was particularly fast and interesting. Tho visitors had the heavier team, and the forwards were an even, hard-hitting combination; but the nippiness of the local eleven, especially in the half-back division, was superior.
Short!}' after the game commenced Paeroa carried into the- circle, and .from a difficult angle Miss H. Shand sent in a good goal. From the bullyoff Ngatea carried play up the field, but Miss R. -Swann beat the centrenaif and sent across to Miss V. Shand. A strong hit quickly transferred play to the other end, where Miss Hartley took a good pass and sent in to Miss' H. Shand, who netted the second goal for Paeroa.
Although there were no flirther scores added in the second half, the game was fast, and fairly close. The visitors took play into their, opponents’ circle on several occasions, but the combination of the home- backs was equal to the pressure and on every occasion a good clearance was effected and the game ended Paeroa 2, Ngatea 0. The Rev. W. E. Gi. Weadon and Mr L. Mahon were referees.
