UNEMPLOYMENT.
COMMUNITY FUND AT PAEROA.
EFFORTS BY CITIZENS.
Reporting to the special Borough Council meeting last night Cr. E. Edwards said that he and Cr. P. E. Brenan were meeting with a., fair response to the appeal for funds to provide work for the local unemployed. It was decided to provide work forthwith for two urgent and worthy cases, and that mor® local men be given employment as contributions wei’e received. It was agreed that the local contributions received, together with the Government subsidy •of £. for £ for relief of unemployment, be expended on the site children’s playground at the olcWailway station site.
The employees of several firms that have been waited on have willingly given one day’s pay a.s their contribution to the fund, and it is hoped that a fairly substantial amount will be collected.
