DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. CHILDREN’S DANCE. A children’s dance was held in the Ngatea Hall on Wednesday evening, but owing to the weather the attendance was not so large as is usual at such functions. However, there was a good attendance of adults, and a pleasant time was spent. Dances for adults were alternated with dances for the children, splendid music being provided by the Ngatea orchestra. The function was arranged by the Church of England ladies of Ngatea in aid of the building fund of the proposed Ngatea Anglican Church. The prize-winners were selected by popular vote the favoured ones being as follows :—

Under six years : Master Montgomery, Little Boy Blue; Miss Martin, silver lining; Miss Norma Lawrence, jester; Miss Ingram, fairy. Under 12 years (best fancy dress) : Miss Madge Waite, Gipsy ; Master Tony Leonard, fairy prince. Best paper dress : Miss K. Barriball, early Victorian ; Master Neil Murray, Herald page. Under 16 years : Miss Barbara Basham. Alice in Wonderland; Master Graham Wheeler, Prince Charming. In the classes for the most original costumes the priae-winners were Miss June McCarthy, sunbeam ; Miss Jean Wheeler, Mary, Mary quite contrary ; and Miss Bonnie Elliott, myself.
