WEDDING.

UNDERWOOD—HAXLEX. The marriage took place on Tuesday last, June. 14, at the Salvation Army Hall, Paeroa, of Miss Eva May Hanlen, daughter of Mr F. Hanlen, of Hikutaia, and Mr Gordon G. Underwood son of Mr D. D. Underwood, of Paeroa. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion in green and white, a large white bell being suspended from the centre. Colonel Toomer, of Auckland, assisted by the Rev. Pickering, of Paeroa, performed the ceremony.

T-he bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in the Salvation Army uniform of navy serge, and white crepe de chine sash, and small sprqy of orange blossoms. She carried a white Bible with streamers. The bridesmaids were Miss Pearl Hanlen and Miss Eva Williams, both of whom wore Salvation Army uniform of navy serge and white sashes. Little Lily Hanlen was flower-girl. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Howard Underwood.

After the ceremony the guests adjourned to the Centenary Hall, where they were entertained by Mr and Mrs Hanlen. The tables were beautifully arranged, and were supervised by Mrs J. Darbysfiire. At the bride’s table were the bridal party and relations, Colonel Toomer presiding. Speeches were made by Mr Hieatt, grandfather of the bride, Mr F. Hanlen, father of the bride, Mr D. Underwood, bridegroom’s father, Mrs- D. Underwood, bridegroom’s mother, Mr W. D. Gilmore and Mr R. Gilmore, uncles of the bridegroom, and Captain Grove. Mr W. D. Gilmore, J.P., of Thames, proposed the toast to the happy couple. The bridegroom responded, and in a neat little speech on behalf of Mrs Gordon Underwood and himself'thanked all for their good wishes and all who worked so well to make the function such a happy one. Over 100 guests attended the breakfast. In the evening a special treat and social was given the young people in the Salvation Army Hall. Games were indulged in, and a very happy time was spent.

Numerous beautiful and valuable presents were received by Mr and 'Mrs Underwood, who left Paeroa by the evening train for their honeymoon. Their future residence will be in Wellington.
