ROAD GRADING.

DEVICE MAKES FOR ECONOMY.

WANGANUI MANS’ INVENTION.

An ingenious device for road grading, which will work as efficiently as any ordinary road grader but will do tlie work in less than half the time and at the small cost of 2d a chain, has been invented by Mr R. R. Dawson, engineer for the Wanganui County Council.

The grader is of special construction to enable it to operate behind a motor lorry, and its ability to do the job was forcibly demonstrated recently, when in one day it graded the road from the city boundary to Okoia (ab-)Ut three miles and a half), and Dorn the end of the tar-sealed section on Anzac Parade to Upokongaro (.p._, miles). This eight miles occupied eight hours, and the cost worked cut at approximately 12s 6d a mile, or 2d a chain.

Another commendable feature is that the grader can be sent out to some distant part of the country in a very short space of time, thereby saving hours in going to and from Work.

Mr Dawson is to be complimented on his invention, which, if capable of half that he claims of it, will make for much greater economy in road construction and maintenance.
