PAEROA SCHOOLS’ UNION.

ANNUAL MEETING.

'the annual meeting of the Paeroa Schools’ Rugby Union was held in Bain's Rooms on Saturday last, the following being present: Messrs Elliot (Hikutaia), Rice (Netherton), Sale (Karangahake), -Taylor and Insley (Paeroa), and Crosby (Paeroa Rugby Union). REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET.

The annuiihl report was read as follows :—

“The committee reports that the past season has been a successful one in every way.

Competition.—Five teams—Paeroa A and B, Hikutaia, Netherton, and Karangahake —took part in the competition, which was again won by Netherton with an unbeaten record. The fine play of this team reflects credit on those who were responsible for their coaching. “Representative Games. —The union played three representative games this year, against Waihi, Piako, and Thames, and won them all. “Roller Mills Shield.—The combined unions, Waihi, Piako, and Paeroa, put such a strong team in the field at Auckland that they were successful in winning the Northern Roller Mills Shield. Our union was represented in this team by nine players. “Finances. —The balance in hand at the beginning of,the season was substantially reduced, the greatest expenditures being incurred in travelling.

“Weight Limit. —Your committee considers that a weight limit should be introduced into the competition in order that the smaller boys m<qy be induced to play.

“Thanks. —The committee Qesires to thank all those who helped in any way to further the interests of school football in the district, either by practical assistance in organising and controlling, or by taking a live interest in the doings of the boys. They desife specially to thank those gentlemen who gave their services in organising and carrying out the successful visit of the Goldfields team to Auckland.” The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £24 14s, and expenditure £2l 16s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £2 17s lOd.

After a brief discussion on the finances of the union and the necessity of obtaining footballs immediately, Mr Taylor moved, seconded by Mr "Rice, that the Paeroa Rugby Union be asked to make the grant provided by tlie N.Z. Rugby Union available 1 mm ed i a tely.—Ca r r ied. On Mr Taylor’s motion, seconded by Mr Rice, it was decided that the maximum weight of players be fixed at Bst 71b in football costume at the beginning of the season, and that all players over Bst be officially weighed by the secretary and Mr Sale.

Mr Sale was granted permission to supplement the Karangahake team by drawing on players from Tirohia or other schools. •The following officers were elected : President, Mr G. H. Taylor ; vicepresident, Mr Sale; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Ingsley ; committee, the president, vice-president, secretary, and Messrs Rice and Elliot ; delegate to Paeroa Rugby Union, Mr J. Insley ; delegates to Thames Valley Primary Schools Rugby Union, Messrs Sale and Insley ; representative selectors, Messrs Insley and Sale. Messrs Taylor and Insley were- appointed trustees of the funds of the union. The secretary was empowered to approach the Referees’ Association with a view to obtaining official referees for matches.

It was decided to commence the ■competition on Saturday, June IL the making of the draw to be left in the-hands of the- president and secretary. On Mr Sale’s motion it was decided that the annual meeting of the Thames Valley Primary Schools’ Union be called for Saturday, June 18, at Paeroa. Mr Elliot moved, and Mr Taylor seconded, that the Schools’ Union register its hearty thanks and appreciation to Mr J. E. Bigelow, the former secretary, for the very valuable services he rendered to the union, and the fine and enthusiastic efforts he had put forth in the interests of school football ever since the inception of tlie Paeroa Schools’ Union, Several speakers endorsed these sentiments, and the- secretary was instructed to write to Mr Bigelow and express to him the thanks and appreciation of the union. The motion was carried by acclamation.

PAEROA RUG BA’ UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union Committee was held in Mr Bain’s Rooms oon Monday evening, the following being present: Messrs C. T. Mettam (chairman), H. M. Shand, J. M. Crosby, J. Pinder, E. Fathers, C. Potter, and R. Hodson (secretary). CLEARANCES. Aftei - much discussion an application by C. O’Brien and E. McLeod asking for clearances from the Karangahake club to allow them to play for Waikino was declined owing to the applicants being resident in the Paeroa union’s district/ DRYSDALE CUP. It was decided to forward a letter of thank> to C. H. Drysdale, Ltd., for the cup recently received. Messrs Shand, Crosby, and Mettam were- HPpointed a sub-committee to frame conditions, pertaining thereto. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ UNION. On Mr Potter’s motion, seconded by Mr Shand, it was decided to advance to the Primary Schools’ Union £3 15s (grant from T.V.R.U.) and donate £1 ss, to purchase- six footballs for the primary schools, the £3 15s to be refunded on receipt of the grant from the Thames Valley Rugby Union. REVISION OF RULES. It was decided to forward the revised rules of the union, as adopt’-d

at an extraordinary meeting of the union on May 19, to the Thames Valley Union for confirmation. SENIOR SELECTOR. Mr W. White was appointed selector pro. tem., owing to the au* den illness of Mr W. Taylor, already appointed to that position. ARRANGEMENTS FOR JUNE 3. Mr Shand and the secretary were deputed to try and arrange a match between Ngatea and West on June 3, 25 per cent, of the gate (if played at Paeroa) to be given to the West club. The action of the secretary in arranging a third-grad 6 match with the Thames Physical Training Club to be played at Paeroa. on June 3 was confirmed. Mr Hodson was appointed managei of the third grade tea.m on June 3, he to be responsible for the representative jersey, in which the team will play. SUSPENDED PLAYERS. Concerning the disqualification of C. McNeil and T. Johnson, Mr Potter moved, and the chairman seconded, that the union recommend the lifting of the disqualifications for favourable consideration to the Thames Valley Rugby Union. After much discussion, in which all present took part, the motion was carried. THIRD GRADE REPRESENTATIVES MATCH WITH PHYSICAL TRAINING The following team lias been selected to represent Paeroa in the thirdgrade match against Thames Physical Training team on Friday:— Full-back, M. Rackham*; three-quar-ters, E. Leigh, L. Masters, K. Wilson; five-eighths, P. Poland and C. Chisholm ; half-back, B. Barakat; rover, E, Verran ; forwards, Johnson, Williams, L. Marshall, Grant, Morland, Alp, Vercoe. Emergencies: Backs, Vowles and Silcock ; forwards, Capill and N. Campbell. CLUB COMPETITIONS. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. The East Club selectors hqve chosen the- following teams to represent the club in their respective club matches on Saturday, the seniors against Suburbs and the juniors against West East Seniors. —N.
