ODDFELLOWS BALL

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS

WELL ORGANISED FUNCTION.

The annual ball held under the auspices of the Loyal Jubilee Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., Paeroa, was held at the Gaiety Theatre last night, and proved an unqualified success. The local Oddfellows Ball has become a recognised annual function to a large number of people and a record has been established in presenting a function of a 'high standard at a low ad,mission charge, and last night’s ball eclipsed all former efforts. The dance hall was gaily decorated •with a unique colour scheme comprising art papers, qnd Sister 1. Taylor and her helpers are to be congratulated on the originality as well as the pleasing result of their efforts.

The four M’s.C., headed by Mr W. P. Pennell, had an arduous time in controlling the two hundred couples who took the floor, and the tactful way the situation was'handled reflects the highest credit on their capabilities. The orchestra, under t'he leadership of Mr Reg. Cooke (Hamilton), dispensed enchanting music, and the appreciation of the dancers wa.s freely shown by the hearty applause accorded throughout the night.

Visitors were present from all parts of the district, while Oddfellows attended from Hamilton, Waihi, Morrinsvillc, Te Aroha, and Thames. The brethren wore regalia up to supper'time, and this, combined with the strikingly pretty dresses of the ladies, produced a kaleidscopic effect seldom produced a kaleidoscopic effect seldom seen in Paeroa. A transformation scene was created in the .supper-room, which, by means of appropriate decorations, whs turned into, a Place de la Nations. Here a delicious sit-down supper was dispensed daintily, and with the utmost expedition. Each attendant had his or her duties allotted, and there was no undue congestion or delay, despite the large number of people who were served.

The object of the ball was not for making money, but as an- annual social function for the Order and t mt this object was achieved last night was clearly indicated by the generous praise that was accorded the local members last night. Without making an invidious distinction—everyone worked with a will and a. spirit of fraternal eo-operatioi^—it will pot be out of place to accord a word of special praise to Bro. K. L. Slyfield, N.G., wdio, as secretary of the ball committee and organiser, was mainly responsible for the success that obtained. It is safe to say that the- local Oddfellows 1927 Ball will long be remembered as one of the best organised and most enjoyable functions held in Paeroa for a long time.
