PLAINS HOCKEY.
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. PROGRAMME FOR THE SEASON. A hockey association was formed on the Hauraki Plains lest evening to organise the activities of the five clubs in the district. The proposal was suggested by this paper, and as a result each club appointed delegates to an inaugural meeting. The delegate's present were : Messrs H. L. Barney and C. W. Harris, Waitakaruru ; J. H. Nicholson and S. Cook, Kerepeehi ; J. -E Reid and J. Terrill, Ngatea ; N. Boyne and R. C. Abel, Ngatea School ; A. E. Aberhart and L. Henwood, Turua ; and J. Miller Kopuarahi. Mr C. W- Harris presided. Mr Reid moved that a Hauraki Plains Ladies’ Hockey Sub-associa-tion be formed.
This was carried unanimously, and it was decided to apply tor affiliation with the Auckland Hockey Association.
Mr .1. H. Nicholson was elected president of the association, Messrs C. W. Harris, D. J. O’Carroll, and A. EAberhart vice-presidents, and Mr RC. Abel secretary and treasurer. Two delegates from each affiliated dub will comprise the executive committee, five members to form a quorum. The- affiliation fee was fixed at £1 Is for each club.
Discussing referees, it was mentioned that Messrs G. L. Griffiths., J. Miller, N. J. Crabbe, S. Cook, W. Dixon and G. Boswell were available.
The-colours of the clubs were registered as follows: Turua, black and white; Kopuarah.i navy and gold; Kerepeehi, fawn and blue: Ngatea, red and blue ; Waitakaruru, green and blue : Ngatea School, not decided. The Kopuarahi club’s second team will be distinctly marked when the first and second teams meet in the competition.
The draw for the inter-club competition, which will commence on Saturday next, resulted as follows : — First Day: Kopuarahi A, at Ngatea: Ngatea School, at Kopuarahi B: Waitakaruru, at Kerepeehi : Turua a bye. Second Day : Ngatea School, at Kopuarahi A ; Ngatea. at Waitakaruru ; Kopuarahi B, at Turua ; Kerepeehi a bye.
Third Day : Kopuarahi A. v. Kopuarahi B ; Kerepeehi. at Ngatea : Turua, at Ngatea School : Waitakaruru a bye. Fourth Day : Waitakaruru, a t Kopuarahi A : Kopuarahi B, at Kerepeehi ; Nga.tea, at Turua: Ngatea School a bye.
Fifth Day: Kopuarahi A. at Kerepeehi : Ngatea School, at Ngatea : Turua, at Waitakaruru ; Kopuarahi B a bye.
Sixth Day : Turua. at Kopuarahi A: Kerepeehi, at Ngatea School : Kopuarahi B. <•)t Waitakaruru ; Ngatea a bye,.
Seventh Day : Ngatea at Kopuarahi B ; Waitakaruru, at Ngatea School ; Kerepeehi, at Turua ; Kopuarfjhi A a bye. A win will count as two points, a draw as one point, and a win by default two points.
Messrs Nicholson, Berney, and Aberhart were appointed a committee to decide whether matches should be postponed on account of wet weather. Mr J. H. Nicholson announced that he intended to donate a shield as a trophy for the winning team of the inter-club competition. Mr Nicholson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
