MINING NEWS.

OPERATIONS AT WAITEKAURI.

5-STAMP MILL AT KARANGAHAKE,

A small syndicate, consisting mainly of Waikino residents, has pegged off a mining claim near, the Waitckauri school. Some very good dish prospects can be obtained in several places on the property, and a large boulder was unearthed some time ago showing very rich gold. Back in the -boom period a negro prospector found a boulder with a seam of pure gold through it. Reef diviners have been over the claim and say that indications point to there being a large reef running through the ground. At Karangahake- a miner named Morris has erected a primitive fivestamper battery, driven by an old engine, and is ready to start work crushing quartz from some leaders at the back of the Crown Hill.
