HOCKEY.

WAIHI DEFEATS PAEROA. The Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club opened its 1927 season at the domain on Saturday afternoon. Heavy rain prevailed during a greater part of the afternoon, but, nothing daunted, the team turned out in full force. A match was played against the Waihi ladies’ eleven, and, considering that both teams were playing ithe first game of the season, a really good exhibition was witnessed. The teams were evenly matched, and the game was fast, although it was principally a forward one. Neither side had scored at half-time, although both sides had struggled hard to net the white ball. With only a few minutes to go to the call oX time a forward scramble took place inside Paeroa’s circle, and in a flash a goal was shot by a visiting forward, the game ending Waihi 1, Paeroa 0. The Rev. Weadon and Mr L. Mahon refereed.
