PAEROA SALE.
UECOIID YARDING OF STOCK. RULING PRICES MAINTAINED. Whether the fact that it was a Fri,•day and the thirteenth day of the month that made the- difference it is difficult to say, but the stock sale of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., at Paeroa on that day established a record. The fact that Paeroa is the natural centre of a large farming community makes it an ideal place in which to hpld regular stock sales, and on Friday last 400 head of cattle, 12Q sheep, a. number of pigs, horses, and sundries were submitted to auction, and only a few lines failed to change ownership. The accommodation in the cattle pens was so severely taxed that nearly 100 head had to be placed in the paddock adjacent to the saleyards. Buyers were present from Auckland, the Waikato, and all parts of the district.
The prices obtained for dairy stock were up to ruling rates, and although store stock was easier, spirited competition prevailed and very little was passed in. There was a good demand for Jersey classes, and any lines of size and quality sold well. The herd of Jersey and Jersey-cross Holstein cows met with keen competition, and sold exceptionally well, full values being obtained. The following prices are quoted : Best dairy cows £8 to £ll ss, medium £6 to £7 15s, inferior sorts £4 10s to £5 15s ; best dairy heifers £6 to £8 10s ; in-ca)lf hfifers £3 to £4 5s ; fat cows £4 10s to £5 7s 6d ; good freshconditioned cows £2 10s to £3 ss, other sorts £1 15s to £2 7s 6d ; 18months to 2-year steers £3 to £3 15s, rougher lines £2 5s to £2 15s. Ewes in lamb £l.
