Branan, H. J. Hare, F. E. Flatt, J. W. E. A. Porritt, J. Pinder, W. Turner, and Mr W. C. Alexander (town clerk). METAL FOR CROSSING. The local branch of Wallace Supplies, Ltd., applied for a supply of metal on both sides of the crossing in Willoughby Street.—Granted subjected to compliance w’th the bylaws. SEWERAGE CONNECTION. A letter was received from Mr G. S. Whiteside, Whakatane, advising that as soon as’ the documents in connection with the purchase of the Grand View Private Hotel, Paeroa, were completed he would visit Paeroa for the purpose Pf going into the question of connecting the premises with the sewerage system. Cr. Porritt said he thought the excuse submitted was only an attempt to delay the matter. The connecting up with the sewerage was an urgent necessity. He moved that Mr Whiteside be advised that, even allowing for a revaluation of the property for exchange purposes, the council held him responsible as the purchaser of the property, and that he be advised that the council desired the work to be carried out in the terms of the letter forwarded by the council.
RATE OF BANK INTEREST. The local branch of the Bank of New Zealand wrote advising that from May 9 the interest to be charged on the house sewerage connections loan account of £2OOO, and street improvements loan account, current accounts, overdrafts would be seven per cent., which was now the best rate for overdrafts and discounts. — Received, the Mayor remarking that it was a great pity.
town planning act. The Municipal Association of New Zealand advised that the executive committee invited all local bodies affiliated to the association to send to the committee any suggestions as to amending the Town Planning Act. 1926.
The Mayor said that the council Was committed to certain works under the Act, and much required to be done wi.thin the prescribed three years. The work was of so large a nature that he thought the whole council should function as a committee. He had given serious thought to the matter, but the difficulty that he foresaw was the basis of scale- and rates to work on. He suggested that the local firm of surveyors should be approached and asked for suggiestions and to bring down a report for the council. He moved in that diiection. He believed that the work would be a costly business to the council. Cr. Silcock seconded. Cr. Porri.tt said, that it might be possible to ask the director of town planning to visit Paeroa, and possibly adjacent ilocal bodies might like to take advantage of the- director’s visit and come to Paeroa to meet him. It was resolved to write to the dP rector and ascertain if Paeroa was to be included in the board’s North Island itinerary.
