HERD-TESTING AVERAGES

THE PLAINS GROUPS. FIGURES FOR MARCH. The following figures concerning the March averages of the cows in the six Hauraki Plains groups, tested by the N.Z. Co-operative Herd-testing Association have been received from the head office of the- association : — In the 53 groups tested by the association there were 55.391 cows, and for the full 30 days of March the average production was 5621 b of milk at a 4.6 test, giving 25.981 b of fat. The group with the greatest milk production in the 53 tested was Waerenga, where 1012 cows produced 6671 b of milk. Manawaru group of 1534 cows had the highest butter-fat production with an average of. 31.241 b. The best herd was in the Paterangi group, where 25 cows gave an average return of 46.101 b of fat, while the highest individual cow was -in the Waihi group and gave 891 b of fat. The. lowest herd averages ranged from 10.88 up to 23.86, and the lowest individual cows ranged from 1.021 b up to 8.581 b. The Netherton group, comprising 956 cows, gave an average of 5491 b of milk, 4.3 test and 23.771 b of butterfat for the month. The highest herd, witli 33 cows, gave an average of 32.671 b of fat, the highest cow 72.091 b, the lowest herd 14.761 b, and the lowest cow 3.251 b. The Ngatea group, of 526 cows, had an average of 5391 b of milk. 4.1 test, and 22.601 b of fat for the month. The highest herd gave, an average of 32.961 b fat, the lowest 18.62, the highest cow 48.84, and the lowest cow 5.941 b. The Patetonga group, of 1395 cows, had the highest average test with 4.6, though the 5251 b of milk was the lowest average in the six Plains groups. The average fat production for the group was 24.181 b, the highest herd averaged 33.331 b fat, the' highest cow 61,741 b. the lowest herd 13.551 b, and the lowest cow 3.671 b fat. The Shelly Beach group, of 1128 cows, had the highest fat production average of the Plains groups with 26.441 b. The average milk return was 5901 b, and the average test 4.4. The highest herd gave 34.111 b fat and the highest cow 53.131 b, while the lowest* herd averaged 17.38 lb and the lowest cow 1.231 b fat. The Turua group, of 757 cows, had an average of 5661 b milk, 4.4' test, and 25.251 b fat. The highest herd had an average of 31.141 b fat the lowest herd 19.131 b, the highest cow 54.271 b, and the lowest cow 5.67. The Waitakaruru group, of 460 cows, had an average of 5871 b milk, a 4.2 test, and an average of 251 b of gutter-fat. The highest herd averaged 31.651 b fat, the lowest 18.891 b, the highest cow 54.121 b, and the lowest cow 4.681 b.
