THAMES HOSPITAL BOARD.
BOROUGH MEMBERS RETURNED.
i At Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board advice was received from the Paeroa Borough Council that Mr P. E. Brenan had been elected unopposed as the representative of the borough on the board.
A notification was also received from the Thames Borough Council advising that Messrs J. W. Danby, W. S. Flett, and J. H. Lange, had been returned as representatives of that borough.
The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) said that it afforded him pleasure to extend con-gratulqtions. and a hearty welcome to the dd members who had been returned, in the persons of Messrs P. E. Brenan, J. W. Danby, J. Lange, and C. W. Kennedy. To Mr Flett a special welcome was extended, and the chairman expressed the hope that he would find the work interesting, and that he would give of his best service.
In returning thanks Mr Brenan said that his actions in the future would be consistent with those in the pash He was deeply interested in the work of assisting to care for the sick and suffering, and he would at all times do what he could in their interests, consistent with the best interests of the ratepayers. Mr Danby also expressed his pleasure at bejng returned for a further term. He expressed regret, however, that Mr J. Rowe, an old and valued member of the board, had been defeated on a principle on which he had stood firm. Mr Danby expressed the hope that the Thames members would continue to be just and fair in their dealings and work together in the interests of the board and ratepayers. Mr Flett thanked the chairman for the welcome accorded him, and said that he hoped the ratepayers’ confidence in him would not be misplacedMr Kennedy acknowledged the chairman’s welcome, and in congratulating Mr Flett he said that he admired the way Mr Rowe had shown the courage of his convictions, even though the principle for which he stood had been the cause of his defeat, He hoped the board would forward a letter expressing appreciation of the services Mr Rowe had rendered over a long term of years. Mr Lange also briefly replied. The chairman agreed that Mr Rowe had given many years of much-valued service to the board, and he was to be complimented on the stand he had taken at the election, and the speaker said he was sorry he had not been returned. It was with pleasure that he moved that the board record its sincere appreciation of Mr Rowe’s services.
In seconding, Mr Brenan said that he greatly appreciated the help and co-operation received from Mr Rowe, and he trusted that Mr Flett would uphold his reputation as a footballer and play fairly, even if hard.
