POWER BOARD ELECTION

BOROUGH REPRESENTATIVEiS.

MEMBERS RETURNED UNOPPOSED.

Notification was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board from the town clerks of Paeroa, Thames, Te Aroha, and Morrinsville that Messrs F. E. Flatt, H. R. Bush, C. A. Arthur, and G. Howie had been returned unopposed for their respective boroughs as representatives on the board.

The chairman (Mr F. M. Strange) extended congratulations and expressed his pleasure that the members representing the borough had been returned unopposed at the recent municipal elections. He said that he thought the personnel of the board was unique, in- that of the 12 original members nine still held office, while the three who had retired had never been defeated at a poll. The- position disclosed indicated that the people, were well satisfied with their members’ efforts on the board.

In returning thanks Mr G. Howie (Morrinsville) said that he was on the board on sufferance and was only keeping the chair warm until a bet-

ter man came along. Mr F. E. Flatt also expressed his thanks, and said that he found the work deeply interesting, and it w r as pleasing to know that his relationship with the members had been most happy. Being a member of the board gave one an opportunity of .meeting members from all parts of the district and to gain a knowledge of the progress and requirements of the various localities. The exchange of ideas and opinions was most beneficial.

Messrs H. R. Bush (Thames) and C. A. Arthur (Te Aroha) also returned thanks, and stated that they were desirous of giving all the service they could in popularising the use of electricity, and at the same time conserve the interests of the ratepayers whom they represented.
