COUNTY FINANCES.
HAURAKI PLAINS BALANCE-SHEET SUMMARY OF ACCOUNTS. The following extracts from the bal-ance-sheet of the Hauraki Plains County Council for the financial year ended March 31, 1927, have been made available by the county clerk and treasurer, Mr E. A. Mahoney GENERAL ACCOUNT. The receipts to the general' account amounted to £17,629, and there were advances from other accounts of £650, bringing the total to £18,279. At toe beginning of the financial year there was a credit balance of £1053 Ils Id Payments totalled £10,281 4s 2d, leaving £6944 4s 9d for expenditure on tho riding accounts. The expenditure on roads, maintenance, etc., in the various ridings, and the debit balances, are as follows: Kopuarahi, £l2BO 10s 4d, £266 13s lid J Turua, £660 3s Bd, £387 6s 4d ; Horahia £2644 Is Id, £Bl5 13s ; Kerepeehi, £592 Is 2d, £B2 15s 4d; Netherton, £822 18s 3d, £lO3 4s 8d ; Patetonga, £526 15s lOd, £655 16s 7d; Ngatea, £1697 14s 4d, £374 12s 6d ; Pipi.roa, £1979 2s 2d, £lOl Os lid (credit) ; Waitakaruru, £1165 17s Bd, £775 16s 2d. The total expenditure was £ll,369 16s 6d. HOSPITAL RATE ACCOUNT. The total hospital rate collected on behalf of the. Thames Hospital Board was £2724 19s Bd. The debit balance at the beginning of the financial year was £B9l 2s 2d, levies paid totalled £l7oo', leaving a credit to the account of £133 13s 4d. ANTECEDENT LIABILITY. The antecedent liability was extinguished by the seventh and final payment of £B6B Ils 9d. This was paid out of the general account this year, as no special rate Was collected for the purpose, INTEREST AND SINKING FUNDS. The total payments made during the year as interest on loans was £9274 9s, and the total payments to the sinking funds of loans was £2514 19s. MAIN HIGHWAYS. The sum of £5363 13s lid was received from the Main Highways Board as subsidy on maintenance work done. GRANTS AND THIRDS. Government grants received during the year totalled £2856 15s lid. The credit balance to this account at the beginning of the financial year was £1267 8s Bd, and the expenditure totalled £3151 9s Bd. The receipts as “thirds” totalled £157 5s 9d, the credit balance was £264 13s, and the expenditure was £2lO 3s lOd. LOANS RAISED. During the year £59,350 of loan money was raised, and £50,128 3s 10d was expended. The expenditure out of the various loans was as follows, and in cases where moneys were raised during the year the. amount is given in parenthesis: Turua-Nethei-ton Roads, £3708 10s Id (£1100) ; Netherton Roads, £3312 14s Id ; Machinery No. 2, £ls4' 14s 9d ; Horahia Roads, £2539 5s 9d; Turua-Orongo £466 19s; Overseer’s house, £607 10s 3d (£800) ; Engineer’s house, £962 0< lid (£1250) : Netherton Roads, 1925, £11,967 18s 2d (£13,200) ; Plains West Water Supply, £4885 0s lOd (£40,000) ; Hauraki Bridge, paid to the Public Works Department, £Bo'oo ; Maukoro Bridge, paid to Piako County £1400; Pekapeka Water Supply, £1779 8s 8d (£2000) ; WaitakaruruMaukoro Canal Road, paid to the Lands Drainage Department, £lOOO and £lOOO raised. RATES. The rates outstanding at April 1. 1926, amounted to £23,619 11s Id, and the rates struck during the year totalled £23,762 Ils 2d. During the year 1926-27 rates amounting to £22,470 7s Id were collected, while £2758 15s was written off, leaving £22,153 0s 2d outstanding at March 31, 1927. PUBLIC DEBT. The nett public debt of the- county at March 31, 1927, was £161,548, with unexercised authority to raise a further £63,400. BANK BALANCES. The balance of bank accounts at March 31, 1927, was as follows : County fund account, debit of £lllB 10s 3d; loan account, credit of £8865 8s 7d 5 of which £4OOO is on fixed deposit ; West Water Supply account, credit of £35,114 19s 2d, of which £23,000' is on fixed depoosit.
