That the population of the Paeroa Borough, lias increased during the last two years is indicated by the 1927 electors’ roll, which contains 1156 names, compared with 897 names on the last roll, which was printed on April 15, 1925, an increase of 259 names.
Inmoving the .adoption of the building committee’s report, together with the, approval of permits totalling £1470 at the last meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council, Cr. E. Edwards, referred to the fact that a record for building had been established. He pointed out that for the year ended March 31, permits granted totalled £82,399, as compared with £8740 for the previous twelve months. A gratifying feature, concluded Cr. Edwards, is that the buildings erected during the past twelve months have been large and substantial ones that have greatly improved the appearance of the borough, and had also gone to show that ’ people had faith in the. future of Paeroa.
Whilst playing with some boys on Wednesday afternoon little Ray Jaspers, youngest son of Mr P. Jaspers, Wood Street, Paeroa, cut his right foot very deeply, presumably on a broken bottle. The accident occurred some distance from his home, but his two elder brothers set to work to carry the lad home. However, a passer-by noticed the plight of the children and, seeing that the wound was bleeding profusely, rendered firstaid, after which Mr J. Capill, who was passing on horseback, took the boy in front, of him to his parents’ home. A doctor was called in, and it was found necessary to insert several stitches. However, the wound did not heal satisfactorily, and on Friday the little sufferer was sent to the Thames Hospital for further treatment.

A painful accident befel Mr E. V. Slyfield on Friday. He. was riding a bicycle along Station Road towards his home when, without any warning, the front fork of the machine snapped and threw him heavily on to the metal. Fortunately be was riding at a slow pace when the accident occurred. Facial abrasions, a cut hand, and bruises were the extent of the injuries sustained.
No effort is being spared by the members and supporters of the. Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club to make the dance and euchre tournament, to be held to-morrow night, an outstanding success. The Waihi Dixie Boys’ orchestra has been engaged, and handsome prizes have been provided for the euchre tournament.
