PLAINS HOCKEY.
THE LADIES’ CLUBS. ' PROSPECTS FOR THE SEASON. With the exception of the Kerepeehi club the lady hockey players of the Plains are making slow progress this season with the organisation of their sport. However, the prospects are that the game will make rapid strides before long, as the donation of a trophy by Mr J. H. Nicholson, of Kerepeehi, has indicated that there will be an organised inter-club competition. The Waitakaruru club, which held a preliminary meeting last Wednesday evening, found that it would be able to put a team in the field equal to if not stronger, than in previous years. Miss Gille.tt is again secretary, but so far the other officers have not been appointed.
The Ngatea club called its annual meeting for last Wednesday evening, but as a dance was being held in the hall little business beyond the appointing of Mrs Bertelsen as president and Miss McKercliar as secretary was done. It is thought that a difficulty will be experienced in securing sufficient players to form a team this season. A club was formed at Kopuara 1 '! last week-, and twenty players, wore enrolled.
