The main playgrounds h,ad been tarred and sanded, and many other improvements carried out. The committee recorded its thanks to the Paeroa Borough Council for the generous assistance given In many ways. Since September last the committee, with %thc help and co-operation of the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall), had been working steadily towards the. establishment of a school dental clinic, and a reply had been received from the Education Department authorising a grant of £l6O towards the cost of erecting and equipping the. building. The work was to be put in hand immediately. The total amount of receipts for .. the. year was £36o' 16s 3d, and the expenditure amounted to £294 Ils Id, leaving a credit balance as at February 28 of £66 5s 2d. The examination results were highly satisfactory, and a special letter of congratulation had been received from the Education Board, Auckland. In conclusion the report stated: “The committee must once again Teter to the amicable, relations that have existed with the school staff, and has gratification in emphasising the fact of the loyalty and devotion of the teachers to the welfare of our school, both socially and educationally. The splendid results attained at the examinations must be very gratifying to parents and pupils, as well as to the teachers, especially when it is considered that a record has been established. Your committee cannot speak too • highly of the sound tuition given by the headmaster and his staff. We wish to record the sincere, appreciation of the assistance and co-opera-tion of Mr Taylor and his staff that has so readily been extended to your committee on aff occasions.” In moving the adoption of the. report His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) said it was a matter for regret that there was not a larger tendance, but the obvious conclusion” to arrive at was that the committee was doing such good work that the. householders were well contented. It was, no doubt, an Implied compliment, but he felt sure it would be more encouraging if parents took a greater interest in the management and welfare of the school. The examination results reflected the highest credit on the headmaster (Mr G. H. Taylor) and his staff, and had given satisfaction .and pleasure to parents and pupils. In addition to receiving efficient tuition the morale of the school had reached such a high standard that it had been the subject of favourable comment.. The tiffie would come when the pupils would look back with considerable pride and pleasure on tlie • days spent at the Paeroa school. The committee had done splendid work. Big jobs had been undertaken and carried through, and with the provision of the dental clinic a lasting memorial to the enthusiasm and enterprise of the members would result. The resolution was seconded by Mr A. Morgan. ELECTION OF COMMITTEE. The nominations for the committee did not exceed the required number, and the following members of the out-going committee were again elected : Messrs W. N. Chamberlain, C. T. Mettam, J. C. H. The credit was mostly due to his staff, and especially to Mr E. G. Preston and Miss H. Taylor, of the secondary department. Mr Preston and his pupils were also responsible for the care and attention given to the garden plots and the beautifying of tlie grounds. The headmaster said he was pleased to think such happy 'relations had existed between the committee and staff, and he hoped that such a state of affairs would continue. In conclusion the retiring chairman (Mr C. H. Pascoe) thanked the meeting for attending, and added that it seemed hard that the committee should labour for the school all the year 'round so that the public as well as the pupils should benefit, and then find that their efforts were not backed up by the. townspeople. He desired to express his deep appreciation ami thanks to Mr Marshall for the help and interest he had taken in the welfare of the school, and on behalf of the committee, extended to the Mayor hearty congratulations on his return unopposed to the Mayoral chair.
