DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA, CRICKETERS’ BALL. The Ngatea Hall was the scene of a highly successful Cricketers’ Ball on the night of April 13. Contrary to the usual bad luck popularly supposed to go hand in hand with that number, there was a large and representative gathering, all parts of the district sending their quota. The decorations were very pretty, the old hall being hardly recognisable under the streamers, flags, and greenery. Mr Albert Williams’ orchestra tendered a tine selection of the latest dance numbers, and even the most intolerant critic must admit that the, band is a favourite. An extra was played by Miss Mona Mayn, and the number, of encores called for was a fitting tribute to her playing. The ball was a perfect finish to a very successful cricket season.
