The ..Public Works Department’s steam suction dredge, which has been engaged in dredging operations on the Waihou River, near the site of the Hauraki Bridge, Kopu, returned to the Puke, Paeroa, last night. The huge vessel, which was piloted up the river by Captain R. E. Thorp, reached the Puke safely after a lengthy overhaul and clean-up.

The popular river steamer Taniwha has taken up her running in the Auckland-Paeroa service. The vessel has just come off the slip at Auckland, where, she underwent a thorough overhaul an clean-up.

The Hauraki Plains County Council conducted the business of its monthly meeting yesterday in record time, the whole proceedings lasting only a few minutes. A tender for work on Fisher’s drain, Netherton, was accepted, and a resolution of sympathy with Or. J. C. Miller who was seriously ill as the result of a heart attack at Thames on Tuesday was carried.
