HOSPITAL REPORTS.

WORK AT THAMES INSTITUTIONS. PROGRESS DURING MARCH. The following reports were read ami approved at Monday s meeting of the Thames Hospital and Cha/itabD Aid Board :- SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The resident superintendent (Dr. AV. Sowerby) reported that 41 male* and 38 females had been admitted dining the month, and 45 male.s and ■lO females had been discharged, lea - .- ing 34 males ami 27 females in the institution at date. Operations dining the month totalled 34. In the outpatients department 9 treatments, involving 82 attendances, had been given. One male and two female patients had died. The surgeon pointed out that the passage, loading to the X-ray room was unsatisfactory as a scullery. The room next to the X-ray room had been suggested as a suitable place for a kitchen. However, it had no advantage over the present arrangements, as it was too far away from the male surgical wards. The most suitable place for the kitchen was on the theatre side of the passagealongside the out-patients’ department. If that suggestion was objected to it might be possible to utilise a portion of the verandah between the accident and Ehrenfried wards. After a brief discussion the matter was deferred for one month to enable the chairman to obtain an estimate as to the cost. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron (Miss K. M. Anscnne) reported at length on staff and domestic matters for the month. Thanks were due to the AVomen’s National Reserve, members of which had taken five convalescent patients for a motor drive, which was much appreciated. A donation of two cases of tomatoes had also been received from Mrs Gilbert. MATERNITY ANNEXE. In the maternity annexe eight patients .had been admitted, and four were remaining at date. There hiid been five births during the. month. On the motion of Mr Danby it was decided to record the thanks and appreciation of the board to the National Reserve and all those who had made donations during the month. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The. epginee.r (Mr A. M. Somerville) reported that everything in his department had been working well during the meeting. Steam for heating ■had been in use. for the. full month in the maternity annexe and as required in the operating theatre. The coal consumption for the month totalled 36 tons llcwt. PATETONGA DISTRICT NURSE. The Patetonga district nurse (Mrs L. McNamara) reported having treated ten patients during the month. Fees received to date totalled £3 18s 6d, plus bureau fees amounting to 4s Id. The number of maternity cases treated was three for the year from April 1, 1926. to March 31. 1927. DISTRICT HOMES. The superintendent of the District Homes, Tararu, reported that there were 14 males and 2 females in the Homes.at date. The, total returns for the year ended March 31 for the 13-acre farm amounted to £709, which worked out at over £54 an acre. The homos had also forwarded 110 head of poultry to Auckland for sale.

The whole of the work and administration in connection with the homes was referred to a special committee.
