FOOTBALL.

SEASON OPENS AT PAEROA. VISIT OF THAMES TEAMS. The 1927 Rugby football season opened at Paeroa on Saturday last in line weather. Three unofficial matches were played at the domain, and good football was enjoyed by the fair crowd present. The senior match, which was controlled by Mr J. M. Crosby, resulted in a win for the Ramblers (Thames) by a narrow margin of one point, the final scores being Ramblers 6, Paeroa 5. For Paeroa G. Wells scored a try, which was converted by R. Swann. The last try obtained by the Ramblers was secured just oh the call of time. In the junior match Paeroa defeated Ramblers by 5 to 0. J. Conolly score.d for the home team, S. Williams converting. The game was played in a very friendly spirit throughout. Mr A. J, Arnold was referee.

As a curtain-raiser to the senior game a third-grade match, comprising Paeroa School v. The Rest, was played.. The schoolboys had a runaway win, the, scores being 28 to 0. Mr A. J. Arnold also refenecd this match.

Judging by the fair standard of football seen and the enthusiasm of tbe players the prospects for the game locally appear bright this season.
