CHINA INLAND MISSION.

TO-NIGHT’S LECTURE

A unique opportunity will be given to I’aeroa residents this evening to gain a little first-hand knowledge of the conditions of life in China, and particularly the work of the China Inland Mission, when Dr. F. Howard Taylor will deliver a lecture iiqthe Presbyterian Church. Dr. and Mrs Taylor have spent many years in China, and are conversant with the whole country. Paeroa is indeed fortunate iii having such eminent missionaries as these come here and give us first-hand information, especially at the present critical time. They have a wonderful ste.ry to tell. In the spring of 1922 they were in the province of Yunnan, bordering on Burma and French Tong King, nearing the railroad which was to take them to the coast. Suddenly, when only a day’s journey from the terminus, they were ambushed by brigands and carried off as prisoners to the mountains. The object of their meeting is to seek to encourage fel-low-believers by the record of God’s faithfulness, and to tell of the opportunity and need in China to-day for spiritual men and women. THE GREAT DECEPTION. “The Great Deception,” which is list) to be scree ied to-moirov night, is a secret service story with the world War for a background. It is from the novel by George Gibbs, called “The. Yellow Dove.” TURUA PICTURES. SATURDAY, APRIL 9. « To-inoirow, at Turua, the live-reel official film of the Dempsey-Tunney boxing contest will be shown. The boxing enthusiast gets every detail of the three men in the ring—the wild, tearaway attack of Dempsey and the beautiful stopping tactics of Tunney in the first two rounds, and the gradual mastery of skill and scientific strength a a Tunney gets the mastery. in addiiton “The Dressmaker from Paris ” will be shown. TUESDAY, APRIL 12. Tom Mix and Tony are coming to Turua on Tuesday in “My Own Pal.” In this production Tom is cast as a cowhand who. becomes a member of the Mounted Police after arriving in the city in search of adventure and fortune.
